Mercier Therapy
Dr. Hannah Anderson is the only person in the Cedar Rapids area, and one of two practitioners in the state of Iowa that can perform Mercier Therapy. Dr. Anderson works on the uterus, ovaries, bladder, and muscles surrounding the pelvis to decrease scar tissue, and stimulate blood flow and healthy function. It’s even applicable if you no longer have your uterus or ovaries, because your bladder, scar tissue, and surrounding ligaments still remain in your body.
Mercier therapy is a great option for women who have had any sort of abdominal surgery, multiple pregnancies, particularly c-section or cesarean birth, because of the amount of internal scar tissue left in its wake. Are you trying for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean)? If so, releasing adhesions to the uterus can create smoother and more even contractions during the birth process. Even if your scar isn’t bothering you now, it can slowly adhere to other organs over time and cause issues in the future.
It’s also appropriate for women with pelvic pain, low back pain, urinary incontinence, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and endometriosis (although timing of treatment is more important with endometriosis). It has even shown to be helpful for women experiencing infertility, as a replacement OR as a supplemental therapy to best prepare your body for fertility medications, IUI, or IVF.
