I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa, attended the University of Iowa, and later graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. I married my highschool sweetheart in 2007 and moved to Hiawatha/Cedar Rapids in 2009. I have two wonderful children—a daughter, Porter (2012), and a son Cooper (2015).
I enjoy vacations, especially to warm places with mountain views, or remote cabins with fireplaces and snowfalls, biking, books, and planning adventures with the kids.
The Back In Line Family Chiropractic & Wellness home and family is a huge part of my life. I love who I work with and I love the work family we have created. The heart and soul of our office is to offer the best services to the patient and meet their individual needs. The doctors I work with have made a strong commitment to their specialities and areas of focus.
We have many patients with many different conditions, it makes sense to have a one-stop shop. I love the focus on the patient and the patients’ needs—a truly patient-centered focus. We feel very deeply that when we focus on highly specific techniques and training, the patient gets better, faster. The front desk team understands that making every aspect of patient care easy and enjoyable is a crucial part of a healthcare office. Health insurance can be complex, and in the world of high deductibles or no coverage, honoring your healthcare dollars is a crucial part of the patient experience. I value the relationship we have with each other, and our patients.
At the beginning of 2022 I elected to stop working under the constraints of third party insurance companies and work directly for my patients. In other terms, I am an out-of-network provider, meaning I don’t have to play by the rules insurance companies deem necessary to treat and meet “medical necessity” in caring for patients. Don’t get me wrong, I work alongside three other providers that remain in-network for many companies, however, much of my training doesn’t fit within the traditional standard-of-care. I get to think and work outside of the box. I get to practice a truly progressive approach to healthcare in foundational lab testing, functional lab assessments, and treat patients that the traditional model of care happens to miss, or to help patients find out why they are having issues with fertility, hormone dysregulation, subclinical hypo-thyroid, GI disturbances, and more. I can still treat patients that have all types of insurance, however, patients who elect to see me can get reimbursed by their out-of-network benefits (if they have them, or elect to use their FSA or HSA, or pay cash or check for care. I no longer work for insurance companies but work for the patients first.
My primary areas of focus are headaches, acupuncture, and functional medicine.
My favorite patient types are:
- Newbies to Chiropractic—those who are not sure where to start or what they need
- Maintenance & Wellness Care
- Headaches and Chronic Migraine patients
- Functional Medicine and Wellness-based patients
Currently, I am working on programming to discuss birth control options and hormone regulation in teens, and young women. Oftentimes we are not told of alternatives to prescription hormone therapies or of the informed consent regarding the biochemistry of birth controls and what it does to our brains and our bodies.
