I’ve written a lot about what I’ve learned and observed from watching my parents age. One of the most pivotal moments in my own journey came when my dad suffered an osteoporotic fracture at age 73. It was humbling. It still is. And to be honest, I wrestle with frustration — not just at the event, but at myself. As a chiropractor — someone who literally builds their profession around the spine and alignment — I didn’t take osteoporosis seriously enough. Back in school, I thought of it as something only 80-year-olds had to worry about. But that assumption was naive. And wrong.

Osteoporosis is one of the most common and preventable diseases worldwide — and one of the most underappreciated threats in clinical care. That experience radically shifted my perspective. I take it seriously now — for myself and even more so for our patients. That fracture was preventable. And that’s the point. The consequences to my dad's (and mom's) health changed drastically after that fracture. The quality of life for both of them rapidly declined from that day on and the weight of that weighs heavy on my heart.

In 2023, Dr. Nate, told me about Dr. Peter Attia’s book Outlive. I devoured it. His lens on medicine, aging, and prevention resonated deeply with what we aim to do in our clinic. He coined the term Medicine 3.0, and I’d say I align with about 92% of his take. (Take a peek for yourself — then let’s compare notes!)

What I love about Functional and Integrative Medicine — or Medicine 3.0 as Dr. Attia calls it — is that it empowers us to look forward, not just react when things fall apart. We use real biomarkers from blood, plasma, urine, and wearable tech to gain a living snapshot of your health. We’re not waiting for disease to show up — we’re working to reverse it or prevent it entirely. Over 80% of the health crises that land people in ERs or on medications are preventable with changes in diet, sleep, strength, movement, and stress regulation.

Unlike conventional models which are constrained by insurance and outdated “standards of care,” we work for our patients. And our patients are different — they're motivated, proactive, and willing to take ownership of your health. Many of you have reversed chronic conditions, reduced medications, and restored vitality — all because you changed how you eat, sleep, move, and recover.

Unfortunately, in standard care, doctors are often limited not by their knowledge or compassion, but by what insurance will approve. You don’t get treated until your labs look bad enough to qualify for a diagnosis. Preventative screenings for osteoporosis, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer are underutilized and lack, even though they could change or save lives.

Yes, your PCP might tell you to "eat better" and "exercise more" — and they’re not wrong. But let’s be honest: it feels vague, incomplete, and lacks metrics and specifics.

That’s why we developed a specific set of goals for you to consider your desires for what you WANT to be able to enjoy ESPECIALLY in your retirement years. The Centurion Goal List — to give you tangible, measurable targets for what it means to live strong, mobile, sharp, and capable into your 80s, 90s, and even 100s. Often times when we ask our 40+ years olds (yeah, I see you...) what do you WANT to be able to do in retirement, we NEED to start training for that today.

This is not just about living long — it's about thriving at 100. We reverse-engineer the strength, stamina, mobility, and cognitive sharpness you'll want then, and train for it now.
