Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which a person breathes in pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. It is typically used to treat a variety of conditions, including non-healing wounds, radiation injury, carbon monoxide poisoning, and decompression sickness. It is also sometimes used as a treatment for traumatic brain injury and stroke. It can be a great tool for patients looking to optimize their health and wellness. HBOT can be used to treat patients with autoimmunity, Lyme and mold toxicity, and patients with Cerebral Palsy, autism, and more.
Back In Line Family Chiropractic & Wellness uses hyperbaric chambers from OxyHealth. Our FDA-approved hard shell chambers and soft shell chambers are available for different treatment regimens. Hard shell chambers are capable of achieving up to 2.4 ata (atmospheres resolute) in pressure. This is roughly equivalent to diving to 33-45 feet of sea water. Soft shell chambers are more suitable for personal home rental use. It is important to know what types of pressures you will need for the health challenge you are looking to optimize.
During a HBOT session, the air pressure in the chamber is increased to three times or more the normal atmospheric pressure. This increased pressure allows the oxygen to dissolve more readily in the blood, which can help to improve the delivery of oxygen to the body’s tissues. There are several potential benefits of HBOT, including increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood, improving the body’s ability to heal, reducing inflammation, and killing bacteria.
HBOT is considered a safe and effective treatment for a variety of medical conditions. We walk each patient through a comprehensive intake process which leads to an effective treatment plan. Side effects are rare and mild, including sinus and inner ear pressure.

Hyperbaric oxygen is usually well tolerated with few side-effects. However, there are some side-effects that patients may experience. Most of these items below are avoidable and/or reversible with our trained hyperbaric technicians attending to the patient during treatment.

Visual refractive changes (typically only short lived)

Cataract maturation (HBOT may not cause cataracts, but may cause them to mature)

Claustrophobia

Hypoglycemia

Barotrauma of the ear (with our trained technicians this is avoidable)

Round or oval window rupture (with our trained technicians this is avoidable)

Sinus squeeze – can occur if patient has a cold/congestion

Tooth squeeze – can occur rarely with a poorly done tooth filling/dental work.

Oxygen toxicity seizures (with our trained technicians this is typically avoidable/reversible)

Protocols in Hard-Sided Chamber:
Surgical (cosmetic, orthopedic)
- Enhanced Healing Protocol: 3 sessions before and 7 sessions after procedure (10 total sessions)
- Optimal Healing Protocol: 7 sessions before and 13 sessions after procedure (20 total sessions)
Covid
- Mild Long Haul CV19, Mild Concussions, Mild Injury (ankle sprain, wrist sprain, golfer elbow): 10 sessions
- Moderate Long Haul CV19, Concussions with loss of consciousness: 20-40 sessions
- Severe Long Haul CV19: 40-80 sessions with a break of 3-6 weeks after 1/2 of the sessions have been completed
Significant Autoimmune symptomatology, TBI, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Lyme, Spinal Cord Injury: 80-120 sessions with a break of 3-6 weeks after 1/2 of the sessions have been completed
